Personal profile

Public Profile

Erik Noschka originated from Germany and undertook veterinary training at the University of Leipzig.  After staying on for a clinical training in Equine Surgery and serving in the NATO-Kosovo campaign as Mountain Ranger Officer he moved subsequently to Athens, GA to complete a PhD in Physiology on equine laminitis under the supervision of Dr. James N. Moore. In 2007 he became a Resident of Large Animal Surgery at Virginia Tech to fulfil the requirements for Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons while working successfully on his Masters of Science thesis in equine colic.

In 2011 Erik joined the newly established School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences of University of Adelaide.  He worked with Prof Riley on the design of the new equine hospital, the Equine Health and Performance Centre, and executed the construction of the center between 2012 and 2014. Subsequent to writing the business plan for the new state of the art, large bore 16 slice CT scanner from Toshiba, he received the funding, redesigned the CT- room and implemented the scanner as a clinical and research imaging tool for the school and University of Adelaide.

Research Interests

My current research on biomarkers and inflammation expand my interests form the equine conditions and gastroenterology into “one health”.  Several grant funded investigations are associated with the Stroke Research Program of the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) and the ARC Centre for Nanoscale BioPhotonics (CNBP) and Institute for Photonics and Advanced Sensing (IPAS) with collaborative links to The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital and Womens and Childrens Hospital in Adelaide. Larger collaborative and multi-centre studies in gastroenterology expand to other Australian Universities and states and include also the NC-State University and the University of Georgia in North America.
