Dr Noralyn Mañucat-Tan is a biomedical scientist with expertise in cellular biochemistry, neuroscience, and translational disease research. Her work focuses on uncovering the molecular mechanisms that drive complex diseases, spanning lipid metabolism, neurodegeneration, and cancer biology. She completed her master’s degree in Cellular Biochemistry at Kyoto University, where she studied the interactions of ApoA-1, ATP-binding cassette transporters and fatty acids in cholesterol transport. In 2017, she obtained her PhD in Medical Sciences from the University of South Australia with a focus on neurodegenerative disease mechanisms involved in the activity of neutrotrophin receptor, p75NTR in Alzheimer's Disease and Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration. She later continued her work on amyloid beta as a postdoctoral researcher at Flinders University, where she investigated mechanisms on how amyloid beta is influenced by oxidative stress pathways. In 2023, she joined Prof. Jordan Hansford's research team in the Paediatric Neuro-Oncology Laboratory at the South Australia Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI). Her current research integrates multi-omics and advanced disease models to improve understanding of paediatric brain cancers and other devastating diseases.
