Dr Rachel Elovaris is a Senior Project Officer for the Aboriginal Communities and Families Health Research Alliance (ACRA) in the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) Women and Kids Theme. She has over 13 years experience working with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO) across South Australia, working as a Dietitian/Diabetes Educator with the child and maternal health, and chronic disease teams.
Rachel pursued her PhD in Medicine at the University of Adelaide, investigating the effects of protein on functions of the gastrointestinal tract in health and type 2 diabetes. She also has a Master of Nutrition and Dietetics, as well as a graduate certificate in Diabetes Management and Education from Flinders University.
Within the ACRA team she is Project Leader for the Aboriginal Infant and Toddler Feeding Study. From this project she has brought together the ACCHO maternal and child health clinics to share information and learning about how they manage anaemia and as a result has encouraged collaboration among the health services including the sharing of resources and evidence-based guidelines for the treatment and management of children who have low haemoglobin, thus encouraging workforce capacity regarding skill sharing and knowledge for the benefit of Aboriginal communities.
