Abstract

This chapter presents an overview of access pathways to high-cost medicines in Australia, including funding and pricing processes for medicines subsidised by the national pharmaceutical insurance system, the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) as well as other avenues for accessing non-PBS-funded medicines. It describes current and emerging policies for facilitating access to high-cost medicines by providing better information of the public and improving engagement in decision-making.
