Abstract

: This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:Primary objective: To determine the effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation (daily cumulative dose ≥ 200 IU) for the prevention of vitamin D deficiency in preterm and low birth weight infants.We will define vitamin D deficiency by clinical features (rickets, osteopenia or bone fractures), serum vitamin D levels (<20 ng/mL) or a combination of both.Secondary objective: To determine the safety of vitamin D supplementation (daily cumulative dose ≥ 200 IU) for the prevention of vitamin D deficiency in preterm and low birth weight infants.
